The Disability Policy Unit (DPU) conducts research in the field of policy analysis and evaluation. Its main objective is the impact assessment of health and social policies on persons with spinal cord injury and other health conditions. A subsidiary task involves the formulation of policy recommendations based on the results of thematic research projects undertaken by the unit itself or other research groups. The unit’s main stakeholders are the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation, disability advocacy groups, policy makers, the corporate sector as well as the general public. DPU works closely together with other research groups within Swiss Paraplegic Research, such as SwiSCI, a clinical and community-based spinal cord injury cohort study. It also collaborates with other research institutions in Switzerland and abroad. The unit’s approach takes as “moral compass” the 2006 UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and as conceptual model and theoretical guide WHO’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).
