Suddenly everything changes – your accident or illness can turn the lives of your relatives upside down. Nothing is quite as it was before.
You, too, are bound to get caught up in their concerns. Forced to come to terms with the accident, you must now examine its impact on your own life, as well as on your relationships. Perspectives for a new way of life must be developed and explored.
We at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre provide you with support during this process, and whenever possible, open new doors. One-to-one discussions are vitally important – for you and for us. We’re here to talk whenever you like – you'll find our contact information on the bottom of this page.
Counselling for relatives
Accompanied from Day One
Specially-trained professionals (including patient support staff, counsellors, psychologists, nurses and therapists) are on hand to make sure you feel right at home at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre (SPC). You may also wish to talk to a “peer counsellor relative” (the relative of someone with spinal cord injury). If so, you can choose between professional and peer-based support. Please contact the ward manager for more information.
As a relative, you may sometimes find yourself spending a lot of time waiting. Our library is the perfect place to read, talk or just enjoy a moment of downtime. Come in and have a look around; we’ll be happy to answer your questions.

Longing for some one-on-one time with your relative? We can arrange for you to spend a set period of time with your loved one, provided of course that their condition allows for it.
Please contact the patient’s ward manager for more information.
Training courses/Informational sessions
Your relative will be accompanied by an expert team throughout their entire stay at the SPC. SPC doctors, nurses and therapists are committed to providing patients with all the information they need. You too can take advantage of their know-how.
The SPC offers training courses and informational sessions which will be available to you both during the rehabilitation process and after your relative is discharged.
See the “Para Know-how” brochure for all the offers which might be of interest to you as a relative.
