Spinal paralysis is one of the toughest setbacks that anyone can have. Losing the ability to walk, limited bowel and bladder function, diminished ability to feel heat, cold or even pain – these are just some of the consequences which affect the body as a result of injuries to the spinal column and spinal cord. This is compounded by psychological suffering and material concerns. Several hundred people's lives are blighted by this every year in Switzerland. The Swiss Paraplegics Foundation is reliant upon financial support to enable it to give people with spinal paralysis a helping hand on their journey through rehabilitation and towards being able to lead an independent life again.
