Suddenly everything becomes unclear

A spinal cord injury changes your life from one second to the next. In addition to medical care, those living with a spinal cord injury and their families are suddenly faced with numerous new challenges: adjustments to living space, additional care costs, financial burdens and the loss of stability in everyday life.

Many people living with a spinal cord injury, as well as their relatives, then face very specific questions: How do you manage day-to-day life? What do you need at home? What support is urgent?

Quick help when it counts

Direct aid from the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation comes into play where people with a spinal cord injury and their relatives urgently need support. It provides quick, targeted and unbureaucratic support to people living with a spinal cord injury where other financing options reach their limits. Direct aid thus helps to maintain and rebuild a self-determined life.

  • 1600

applications for direct aid are approved each year by the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation.

  • 4

out of five people with a spinal cord injury say that direct financial aid has a very significant impact on their independence and participation in social life.

  • 70%

of people with a spinal cord injury in Switzerland can lead a self-determined life, where direct aid has been shown to make a considerable contribution.

Direct aid closes gaps in daily life

Many of the necessary benefits and adjustments are only partially covered or not covered at all by insurance companies. Without additional support, this can result in significant financial and emotional burdens. Direct aid makes it possible to provide services such as:

  • financing aids such as wheelchairs, adaptive bikes or technical assistance systems
  • assistance with home modifications for barrier-free housing
  • contributing towards vehicle adaptations for more mobility
  • contributing towards uncovered nursing and care costs
  • medical appliances and facilities that are not fully financed

How your donation helps:

  • you can help quickly in financial emergencies
  • you ensure barrier-free housing and mobility in everyday life
  • thanks to you, uncovered nursing and care costs are cushioned
  • you ensure that those living with a spinal cord injury can return to their familiar environment
  • you promote independence, dignity and quality of life on a sustainable basis

Direct aid works immediately and often exactly when it is most needed.
