Integration as the key to social participation
A spinal cord injury turns your life upside down from one second to the next. In addition to medical issues, you are suddenly faced with very practical questions: Can I go back to my old apartment? How do I stay mobile? Where will I work in the future? How will my relationships change? And how can I continue to take part in social life?
The Swiss Paraplegic Foundation supports those living with a spinal cord injury from medical treatment to professional reintegration and beyond. Our projects in the field of integration include, amongst other things, general integration-promoting measures. The aim is to enable people with a spinal cord injury to participate actively and on an equal footing in social life.
Education and career: Creating and maintaining opportunities
The Swiss Paraplegic Foundation specifically supports children, young people and adults in educational and professional integration. With individually tailored solutions ranging from educational offers to vocational training and further education, we offer people with a spinal cord injury opportunities to return to meaningful activities once they have been diagnosed.
Sport and exercise: Promoting health, encounters and motivation
Sport and exercise make an important contribution to physical health, mental stability and social interaction. They promote self-confidence, strengthen independence and create opportunities for people to connect as equals.
In the area of services Integration, Education and Sport, both competitive and mass sports programmes are supported. These include wheelchair sports, sports and exercise programmes as well as specific relief and support services such as the Tetra Relief Weeks. These are also aimed at relatives and contribute to the long-term stabilisation of everyday life.
Supporting sports projects is therefore not just an investment in physical activity, but also in community, motivation and a zest for life.
