Research for better treatment

Research and innovation are the key pillars of the Swiss Paraplegic Group. They help to continuously improve treatment and provide people with a spinal cord injury with the best possible support throughout their lives.

This results in new therapeutic approaches, better rehabilitation concepts, more effective aids and innovative support services.

Solutions for everyday life

Research has an impact beyond the field of medicine. It also helps to break down barriers, create opportunities and strengthen social participation.

This results in solutions that make everyday life easier in practice for people living with a spinal cord injury, such as:

  • in housing

  • in terms of mobility

  • at work or in leisure time.

Innovation needs support

With targeted investments in research, new technologies and future-oriented projects, we are closing gaps in care and opening up new opportunities for a self-determined life.

Many of these innovations emerge where medicine, technology and everyday life intersect. They require expertise from different areas, a great deal of development work and financial resources. These costs are often not covered by health insurance funds or insurance companies.

Examples of funded research and innovation areas

The projects supported are very diverse and often have a lasting impact over several years. These include, amongst others:

  • Functionality research to improve movement patterns and everyday functions
  • Prevention and treatment of complications and the long-term consequences of a spinal cord injury
  • Clinical research to optimise therapies and treatment strategies
  • Development of new assistive technologies and aids
  • Innovative approaches to promote the health and quality of life of persons living with a spinal cord injury

This research work creates the basis for incorporating new findings directly into rehabilitation, advice and support and for benefiting those living with a spinal cord injury.

How your donation helps:

  • Thanks to you, new scientific findings are being gained to better understand spinal cord injuries
  • You are promoting the development of innovative therapies and assistive technologies
  • You are promoting progress in clinical and social research
  • You are supporting long-term improvements in independence, health and social participation

Research needs time, continuity and trust. Every donation – regardless of the amount – contributes to making sustainable innovations possible.
