Inheritances and legacies

As a private charitable organisation, the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation does not receive government support to provide its services for people with a spinal cord injury. This means that it has to rely on private donations. There are basically two ways you can bequeath your estate: inheritances and legacies.

When writing your will, you need to adhere to legal requirements. These define, on the one hand, who is entitled to inherit and, on the other hand, the minimum you need to bequeath to the community of heirs (= compulsory portions). After this, you can dispose freely of the divisible portion (your remaining assets) as an inheritance or a legacy.

You, too, can leave your estate to the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation in the form of a legacy or you can donate part of your inheritance.

With an inheritance or a legacy, you can support people with a spinal cord injury during their rehabilitation. With your estate, you can provide future prospects and help us to keep our promise to people with a spinal cord injury: to continue to stand up for the needs of people with paraplegia and tetraplegia and to expand our services – for the rest of their lives.

We look forward to hearing from you. 🤝
