Changing tyres yourself

Remove the wheel from the wheelchair using the quick-release axle.

Check the running direction of the tyre and mark it on the rim if necessary.

Place the wheel on a stable surface.

If not already the case: release all the air from the tube.

Push the tyre into the rim well around the entire wheel.

Carefully apply the tyre levers to the tyre on the left and right of the valve.

Now prise the tyre off the rim a little at a time.

Remove the tube (starting from the side opposite the valve).

Remove the tyre.

Check the rim tape for damage and have it replaced by your mechanic if necessary.

If you are simply replacing your tube, check the tyre for possible damage (foreign bodies, shards of glass, etc.).

Pull one side of the tyre back onto the rim.

Insert the valve and inflate the tube a little until it maintains its shape slightly.

First insert the tube into the tyre…

… and then push the tube into the rim well.

Now you can push the tyre back into the rim.

When doing this, start on the side opposite the valve.

Use the tyre levers to do this.

You can secure the tyre in place using two tyre levers, while using the third tyre lever to push the rest of the tyre into the rim.

Work carefully to ensure that the tube does not get damaged.

Check that the valve is not caught between the rim and the tyre by pressing in the valve.

It should be easy to press in.

Adjust the air pressure according to the specifications on your tyre.

Tip: when pumping, push the valve slightly to the side. This means that you will not push the valve in and makes it easier for the air to get into the tube.

Check whether the tyre has been pressed into the rim evenly by lifting and turning the wheel on the quick-release axle.

A thin line is marked on the tyre; if this line runs straight, the tyre has been installed correctly.
