Course on Functional Electrical Stimulation - International FES Centre®

Mechanism of electrical stimulation interacting with physiology and technology – step by step towards clinical application

21th & 22th November 2025 at the International FES Centre®, Nottwil and online via Zoom

The objective of the course is to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge required to utilise electrical stimulation in neurorehabilitation, with the aim of incorporating physiological principles into practice using appropriate stimulation modalities.

    • Teaching standardised terminology
    • Learning the difference between the excitability of muscle and nerve fibres
    • Acquiring knowledge about the importance of electrode placement
    • Deepening the differentiation between damage to the upper and/or lower motor neuron
    • Learning re-learning strategies for upper and lower motor neuron lesions
    • Teaching functionality using electrical stimulation, including benefits and limitations
    • Gaining knowledge about influencing spastic muscles
    • Learning about the complexity of treating partial denervation
    • Information, presentation and application of an assessment form for targeted treatment with electrical stimulation and its various modalities
    • Information about neuromodulation in central and peripheral application

Target audience

  • Physicians working in the field of Neurology, Rehabilitation, Orthopedics or Pediatrics
  • Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, movement scientists and orthopedists treating clients damage of the central or peripheral nervous system who are eligible for treatment with electrical stimulation

Execution

The course is carried out in a hybrid form. A limited number of participants can take part in the International FES Centre® in the Swiss Paraplegic Centre Nottwil. The number of online participants via Zoom is unlimited.

If it is not possible to hold the event in Nottwil, the course will be held completely online. The SPC will not cover any travel or hotel costs that may already have been booked.

On-site participants

Students CHF 290.00 / only with certificate (BSc, MSc, PhD)
Participants on site bear the costs of their lunch.

On-site participants will be able to participate in four workshops (45 minutes each) on Saturday afternoon 22th November 2025 from 1 pm - 4 pm.

Online participants
CHF 400.00
Students CHF 290.00 / only with certificate (BSc, MSc, PhD)
For the online participants, the course ends on the 22th November 2025 at 12 pm.

Registrations will be accepted in the order they arrive. The course organizers reserve the right to cancel the course if there are insufficient participants.
The SPC will not cover any travel or hotel costs that may already have been booked.

Cancellation

If you are unable to attend the course, please contact the organizer in writing or by e-mail to medizinischedienste@paraplegie.ch as soon as possible. Cancellation costs and administrative fees will be charged to the customer. In the case of cancellations up to 22 days before the start of the course, participants will be charged CHF 20.00/EUR 20.00 to cover administrative costs. The organizer is entitled to charge the following cancellation fees from 21 days before the start of the course:
