Routine neurophysiology

This includes well-established procedures such as electroneurography (ENG), electromyography (EMG), evoked potentials, electroencephalography (EEG) and ultrasound examinations.

This examination method can be used to measure muscle activity. The results can be used to diagnose nerve and muscle conditions (e.g. slipped discs, paralysis, myopathies).

In this examination, the nerve conduction velocity is determined using fine electrical stimulation of the affected nerve at various points and surface electrodes across the corresponding muscle.

This examination method can be used to examine sensory nerve pathways (perception of touch). The neural pathways from the arms and legs to the brain can be examined via fine electrical stimulation of the affected nerve and conduction using surface electrodes on the head.

Neurophysiological laboratory for sensory pathways

LEP can be used to investigate how well the nerves transmit pain and how the pain stimulus reaches the brain. This involves stimulating the skin with a short laser pulse and measuring nerve conduction using surface electrodes on the head.

This examination can be used to determine whether the nerves that transmit pain are working properly. For this purpose, short heat stimuli are released onto the skin using a thermode. The stimuli triggered are measured and evaluated using surface electrodes on the head.

This examination method uses an infrared camera to measure the skin’s temperature, which can be important for certain neurological conditions.
